How Much Does a Pannier Hold?

All our panniers have a capacity listed in litres (l). Some panniers have numbers in their name - the GT-54 for example - and the number is the capacity of the panniers either as a pair if they're supplied that way (54 litres, or 27l each in this case), or singly if they're supplied as one unit only. Others - the Utility Basket for example - will have their capacity (27l in this case) listed in the blurb.

But how big is a litre? As a guide a standard shopping "green bag" (20x28x30cm) is just under 17l in capacity. A ream of 500 sheets of A4 paper is about 3.5l in capacity. And of course a 2l bottle of milk is 2l!
