I’d just like to add something to my previous review of the GT3 that I wrote just after buying it from Fuse.
Although I use it mostly for commuting within the city, when I went on social rides with the local BUG I found it needed a slight change to the gearing.
More oomph was required at the top end for some extra speed, for loping along the flat sections.
Also, I found changing down before arriving at the lights a pain, but I couldn’t afford a Rohloff hub.
So, I bought a new wheel with a SRAM DualDrive hub to fit to the trike.
This gave me 81 gears, with, of course, many overlaps. But, it is just the ticket.
I get a 30% increase, approximately (I think) to both ends of the range, so when I’m finally in ‘top’ gear, the chainwheel-and-legs rotate at a reasonable rate and the trike really does fly along.
Equally, I find it easier to select ‘the right’ gear to spin my way up hills and lesser gradients with ease.
But the best feature of all, is the ability to pedal-to-stop, and then select the low range on the SRAM while standing still. When the traffic starts to move…. Away yer go, without any panic about being stuck in the ‘wrong’ gear.
Given my experience, I’d be inclined to buy the SRAM at the outset, and maybe not bother with the front changer at all, since 27 gears should be enough for anyone.
